Creating digital communications

Social media

Communications and Strategy have an overview of all council communications to the public to ensure they meet all of our standards and policies. We manage the content of the following council social media accounts:

We post information about council services, updates to services, public consultations, advertise job vacancies and share important information from our partners, such as Police Scotland, Scottish Fire Service, and NHS Lanarkshire.

We also post links to our news articles on South Lanarkshire View.

If you have something you would like to post on social media, consider whether the information should be on the council website or on South Lanarkshire View as news.

Posts with links to the council website

This could be for a new service, an update to a service, for example, a change to bin collections, or letting people know about a consultation.

  • Discuss new or edited web content with your Resource Information Co-ordinator
  • Send wording for the message (please note there is no character limit for Facebook posts, but there is a 300-character limit for Bluesky) and link to web content, and the frequency of messaging to the Digital Team. Include information about deadlines - such as a closing date for consultation, or the deadline to apply for a service
  • If an image is required, please contact the Graphics team. Please note that posts with links to the council's website will automatically display the council logo unless another image is provided

Posts with links to South Lanarkshire View

PR will arrange social media for all articles published on South Lanarkshire View.

If any follow-up social media posts are required, for example, a reminder about a consultation closing date, the Digital Team will arrange them.

Requests for new social media accounts

Requests to create a new social media account will be considered by the Head of Communications and Strategy.  For more information and the request form, read the Social media policy. Requests should be submitted to digital@southlanarkshire.gov.uk.

For schools moving away from X, a Bluesky account can be created without approval. Please send the contact details and new account handle to digital@southlanarkshire.gov.uk.
