Selection
The Selection Panel is responsible for appointing the applicant who best matches the requirements of the role in line with the information detailed in the job advert, job profile and person specification.
The panel’s composition depends on the level of post being filled, however a minimum of 2 panel members are required for all posts. Panel members should be chosen on the basis of the knowledge, experience and responsibilities they have in relation to the post being filled and should not be of the same grade as the post being recruited for.
The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Checklist should be used by the Chair of the recruitment panel to assist with the Selection process.
Where possible, consideration should also be given to the membership of the recruitment panel so that diversity is reflected in terms of the gender, age, and ethnicity of the members.
If any member of the selection panel perceives that there could be a potential conflict of interest, they should declare this to the recruiting manager as soon as it is known.
All members of the panel, who are decision makers in the appointment, should be involved in the whole recruitment process including:
- agreeing the most appropriate method of recruitment,
- short-listing candidates to take forward,
- choosing the appropriate selection methods,
- undertaking interviews,
- contributing to the panel decision on the successful candidate
