Trauma Informed Practice (TIP) survey 2025

The Improvement Service (IS) ran another national survey on trauma informed practice in August 2025. This year, a single response was sought from each local authority area, rather than from individual respondents (as in 2024).

2025 Survey results

  • 29 local authorities completed the survey.
  • 79.3% of respondents have a Trauma Lead Officer and a TPTIC (82.8%) in post, and about two thirds (65.5%) have a Trauma Champion in place.
  • Most areas are also supported by a local trauma steering group (79.3%), and over half have a local trauma strategy and/or implementation plan in place.
  • Many local areas are continuing to focus on early implementation activities and creating the right conditions for this work to progress meaningfully, safely and sustainably.

Full survey results are published in the National Learning Report (2025), in the Downloads section.

Trauma informed workforce survey 2024

In March 2024 the Scottish Government commissioned an online survey of the workforce about psychological trauma and how embedded trauma informed practice (TIP) is within our organisations. This survey followed on from a previous survey in 2021 and aimed to show the progress made.

Thank you to everyone in SLC who took the time to complete the survey.

Survey results

  • More than 1400 people from South Lanarkshire completed the survey – this represented 28% of the total responses from across Scotland.
  • More than 80% of respondents were from South Lanarkshire Council, approximately 15% were from NHS Lanarkshire, and just over 2% came from the 3rd/voluntary sector and private sector.
  • The majority of respondents were frontline staff.
  • The largest number of responses were from Social Work and social care staff, followed by Education staff (primary and secondary).
  • 84% of respondents were confident in their understanding of trauma and the impact it can have.
  • Respondents were less confident in their understanding of the TIP principles (69%) and in applying those principles in practice (66%).
