Incident Reporting and Audits/Inspections

Reporting and investigating adverse health and safety events

Accident investigation and audits/inspections continue to feature as one of the most recognisable activities linked to a health and safety service. Both activities look to identify gaps in the provision of a safe workplace.

Online Safety Event Reporting Tool (OSERT)

The move to FUSION has brought about the need to upgrade the reporting system used for accident and other safety-related events. Everyone has a role to play in looking after their own safety and that of those around them. Actively reporting such events is key to fulfilling that responsibility. OSERT is the online tool that allows quick reporting of accidents, violent experiences and other unsafe events.

Audit and Inspections

Accident reporting is a key mechanism for identifying gaps in safety provisions, but it occurs after an event, audits and inspections look to identify the gaps before an accident takes place. A range of audit types takes place over the year on a planned basis, whilst inspections tend to take place on an unannounced basis and aim to create a “snapshot” of compliance across the council.

More information on the audit and inspection activities that take place across the council can be found on the audit and inspection information page.
