Domestic violence
We recognise that domestic abuse is a serious issue within society which affects many people and will take all practical steps to support all employees who are victims of domestic abuse. We are committed to developing a workplace culture with zero tolerance for violence of any kind.
We also recognise that other individuals can be exposed to domestic abuse without being abused themselves, e.g. a child witnessing a parent abusing the other parent, could have traumatic effects.
The support provided under our Domestic Abuse policy therefore, applies equally to all employees who may be experiencing domestic abuse, whether they are male or female, or are affected by domestic abuse committed against someone close to them.
Any employee who is experiencing domestic abuse and feels that the Council can offer the support they need should speak to their line manager/supervisor, Personnel, or the Employee Support Team (Finance and Corporate Resources). If preferred, an employee can request to speak to someone of the same sex. This matter will be dealt with on a strictly confidential basis and only those with a 'need to know' will be made aware of the situation, with the employee's consent.
It is your right to feel and be safe. Remember if you are in immediate danger call 999.
