Structured Supervision

The Structured Supervision Programme (SSP) is a suite of Cognitive  Behaviour Therapy based exercises written to provide a structure for one-to-one engagement to assist the justice staff working  with individuals in the community who are subject to statutory  orders of court, Prison Throughcare licences   and  Diversion from Prosecution.

The  SSP Programme consists of  two phases  “Getting Started” and “Discovery”

The first phase of the SSP  - Getting Started is designed to be used in the very early stages of engagement and helps to gather more information about the individuals and  their family, friends and community. The final two exercises introduce areas such as Strengths, Values and Life Habits as an introduction to the sessions which will then  follow into the Discovery Module. The Getting Started module can be applied on its own or as a supplement to the other formal Risk and Needs assessment tools applied within  the Community Justice interventions field.

The second phase of the  SSP - Discovery Module is designed to help Justice workers to  explore key themes in an individual’s life such as Understanding Support Networks, Goal Setting and Chronology of Significant Life events. Thereafter it provides scope to explore Problem Identification, Attitudes, The Cycle of Change. Finally, there are exercises to help develop a formulation to help understand the factors that predispose and precipitate offending behaviour in an individual’s life.

The Discovery Module is intended to be applied to those who have been assessed as having a moderate to high risk of further offending.
