Being a Modern Apprentice

Now that you have joined South Lanarkshire Council on one of our modern apprenticeship programmes, it is essential that you are given every opportunity to train and develop during your programme to fulfil your potential.

You will have been given a copy of the Trainee Handbook at Induction and the aim of this is to help you to have an overall understanding of –

  1. South Lanarkshire Council policies and procedures
  2. The main areas of your training programmes
  3. Your role as a modern apprentice

Our Trainee Handbook has been produced to supplement the induction you have already taken part in.  Our goal is to help you become competent in your modern apprenticeship programme as early as possible and to help you understand your responsibilities.  It is essential that you establish good working relationships and practices from day one of your programme.  Therefore, it is important that you give all information provided your full attention.

Within the handbook, we hope to provide answers to any questions that you may have and to provide you with a successful introduction to South Lanarkshire Council Modern Apprenticeship programmes.

At all stages of the programme you will be provided with support, guidance and encouragement to allow you to succeed.  The successes of the programmes are down to the partnership that you, your supervisor and training co-ordinator form.  We hope that you will contribute to that partnership too.

Whilst it is hoped that the programme will be “problem free”, should you have any problems or worries then please raise them with your immediate supervisor.  You can also contact your programme training co-ordinator, a list of whose contact numbers was given to you at your resource specific induction.
