Supervising a Modern Apprentice

The Council is committed to the recruitment, training and development of young people through the provision of quality programmes in a variety of occupational areas.  The Modern Apprentice scheme is one means of achieving this.

If you are responsible for supervising a Modern Apprentice the main points to note are:

• Supervisors have a key role in the success of the training and development of the people within their remit who are participants in the MA programmes
• The guidance and support provided by the supervisors is crucial to the success of the programme and to the individual
• The Scottish Vocational Qualifications delivered through the Council’s apprentice programmes are dependent on the quality of the on-the-job training and day to day management by the supervisor to the individual within the workplace.

A supervisor’s handbook has been developed to aid your role in the delivery of the programme.  If you have been nominated to supervise a Modern Apprentice you may be invited along to a briefing where the programme and the handbook are discussed.  This would give you an opportunity to meet fellow supervisors and discuss the programmes, your responsibilities to and expectations from the Modern Apprentices. 

Alternatively, the supervisor’s handbook and a list of Frequently Asked Questions for all our programmes will be sent to you electronically.  We will also send a list contact details for all our programmes, a copy of which is shown below.
