Eye tests

Display screen equipment (DSE) is a device or equipment such as a laptop, computer or touchscreen.  Employees who use these within their job can have a DSE Assessment.  A DSE assessment is an eye test/check to see if spectacles are required solely for the use of DSE.

If you think you may require spectacles for this purpose the following process applies:

Employees should complete the DSE referral form which must be authorised by their manager.

The employee can then contact either of the Council's DSE assessment providers, for an appointment. Contact numbers and locations are as follows:

  • The Optical Factory & Hearing Clinic 01355 247581 (27 Tennant Avenue, East Kilbride, G74 5NA)
  • The Optical Factor 01698 458005 (Unit 1, 128 Almada Street, Hamilton, ML3 0EW)

When attending appointment you must bring your completed DSE form and Council ID Badge.  If the optician concludes that spectacles are required solely for the use of Display Screen Equipment and for no other purpose, we will fund the purchase of a pair of spectacles:

  • up to the cost of £40 or
  • if you wish to buy a more expensive pair, we will still contribute the first £40 and the remaining balance will be paid by you.

As an added employee benefit, Optical Factory are providing a 15% discount towards the total cost of spectacles.  This applies to spectacles required as a result of the DSE assessment and any others you wish to buy for your personal use.  To benefit from this you must present your Council ID Badge at Optical Factory to gain the 15% discount.
