Planning and Performance

A dedicated team of staff within Performance and Support Services provides a range of services and support in the areas of:

Performance reporting

Performance reporting activity co-ordinated by the team involves the provision of a range of information which meets the following requirements:

  • the quarterly Resoure Plan performance report
  • Scottish Government returns and statutory performance indicators
  • service specific information detailed with service plans for Adult and Older People Services, Children Services and Justice Services
  • information to support planning, for example demographic profiles and trends
  • management information requests as required by services and business needs

A key task for the team is producing management information which is accessible and understood by managers.  The IMPROVe performance management system underpins this aspiration, in that managers can readily access current management information from their desktop.  All new and existing management information reports are agreed through service specific Performance and Continuous Improvement Groups.

Planning and development

The Resource is required to produce a range of statutory plans and partnership strategies in consultation with key planning partners, including service users and carers. The Resource also contributes to Council corporate planning and reporting activities.

These plans guide the planning of service provision across the Resource and commit partners to action.  They are reviewed regularly to assess progress towards agreed objectives.

Some of the key social work plans include:

Planning and Development Officers provide a range of support to operational services with regard to planning, performance management, self-evaluation, partnership engagement, inspection/regulation and risk management.

Quality improvement

Social Work Resources is committed to providing high quality services to our service users and carers.  Part of the process of knowing that we are doing this and understanding where we need to improve is through self-evaluation activity. The team supports services to undertake self-evaluation exercises which help to identify the following:

  • How good we are now?
  • How do we know?
  • What impact are we making on our service users and carers?
  • Where do we need to improve?

On completion of any self-evaluation exercise or activity, a service will have a better understanding of how effective it is in achieving set goals and aspirations and where any improvement activity should be focused. Improvement planning is a key aspect of self-evaluation activity and ensures that there is a cycle of continuous improvement in place.

Examples of resource-wide activity that the team supports in this area include:

  • Annual case file audit activity for fieldwork and in-house services
  • Annual supervision/PDR audit
  • Self-evaluation of service specific areas eg Adult Support and Protection. Learning Disability has been evaluated

Information provided by the team is specifically designed to support frontline managers and the Resource Management Team in determining how good our performance is and where we need to focus our improvement effort.

The team also supports the Resource's contribution to the Council Plan, Connect.
