Probation Services
Probation is a court order lasting between six months and three years. The offender must report to a social worker or other agency when asked to do so.
The courts can also add extra conditions to encourage good behaviour, for example a period of electronic tagging, a programme to help alcohol or drug problems, a period of community service or a programme of psychiatric care.
The work with offenders on probation:
- tackles the offending behaviour
- helps the individual with any problems that led to their behaviour
