Inclusive Education Service

Inclusion in education increases the participation of children and young people in the community, curriculum, and culture of their school, as the foundation for the highest achievements for all.

Inclusion impacts on the cultures, policies and practice of every establishment and service. Inclusive education encompasses:

  • equality of access to appropriate educational opportunities
  • children and young people's needs being considered at the outset in all policy and decision making processes
  • valuing, and catering for, diverse abilities, backgrounds, interests and needs
  • promoting the learning and participation of all vulnerable children and young people
  • working in partnership with children and young people and their parents/carers

Inclusive education provides information on Education Resources initiatives on support for children and young people with additional needs and who require additional support for learning.

South Lanarkshire Council provides a range of services for children and young people with additional support needs:

  • special school and supported placements
  • meeting additional support needs
  • staged approach to intervention
