Occupational health referrals
Under the Maximising Attendance policy, an Occupational Health (OH) referral for your employee may sometimes be necessary. Common reasons for making an OH referral include seeking advice on:
- reasonable adjustments
- an estimation on fitness to return to work
- impact of an underlying health condition at work
- potential ill-health retirement
Employees applying for ill-health retirement must complete an Ill-health retirement consent form. Managers should send this form to occupationalhealth@southlanarkshire.gov.uk when submitting the OH referral form or as soon as possible afterwards.
Managers must clearly explain why they are making an OH referral, and employees must also be informed of the reasons.
To avoid delays in processing, managers should read the guidance on how to complete an OH referral form before submitting it.
After the OH referral appointment
- Personnel Services will send a report from the Occupational Health Advisor (OHA) to you and your employee
- You should discuss the Occupational Health report with your employee and agree on the next steps
