Paternity Leave
Employees can take up to 4 weeks of paid paternity leave following the birth of their child or following the matching date in cases of adoption.
Paternity leave can be taken by the child’s biological father, or by a partner if they will share the main responsibility for the child’s upbringing with the mother. Cohabiting partners of either gender may also apply for paternity leave. In the instance of a multiple birth or adoption, only one period of paternity leave is allowed.
An employee’s employment rights, such as the right to pay, holidays and returning to their substantive post are protected during paternity leave.
Paternity leave and pay
Fathers or partners of an expectant mother or adoptive parents are entitled to 4 weeks paternity leave and pay. This exceeds the statutory entitlement of 2 weeks leave and pay. This leave entitlement can be taken as a single block or in one week blocks.
Paternity leave must finish within 52 weeks of the birth (or due date, if the baby is early).
Applications must now be submitted through Oracle Fusion.
