Maternity Pay
There are two types of maternity pay, Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) which is a statutory payment, and Occupational Maternity Pay (OMP) which we give to enhance your SMP. To help you understand the pay implications of being on Maternity Leave you can use the Oracle Intelligent Adviser (OIA). By clicking the Maternity Policy icon and providing some personal and job-related details and expected maternity leave start and end dates you will be provided with an indicative pay break down for your period of leave.
To be entitled to SMP you must earn more than the lower earnings limit for National Insurance contributions, and you must have 26 weeks continuous service with us by the end of the Qualifying Week. If you earn less than this, you will not be entitled to receive SMP however you may be entitled to claim Maternity Allowance (MA) via Jobcentre Plus.
Payment of OMP is dependent on your length of service. The table below details what you can expect to be paid whilst you are on maternity leave:
|
Continuous Service |
Maternity pay entitlement |
|---|---|
|
Local Government Employees with 26 weeks or more continuous service |
6 weeks at 9/10ths pay 12 weeks at half pay (OMP) and SMP 21 weeks at SMP |
|
Local Government Employees with 26 weeks or less continuous service |
You are not entitled to OMP or SMP but may qualify for MA. You should seek advice from Jobcentre Plus. |
|
Teacher with more than 26 weeks continuous service |
13 weeks at OMP and SMP = Normal salary 26 weeks at SMP |
|
Teacher with less than 26 weeks continuous service |
You are not entitled to OMP or SMP but may qualify for MA. You should seek advice from Jobcentre Plus. |
Keeping in touch (KIT) days
During maternity leave you are entitled to 10 days at work with normal pay. These are classed as ‘Keeping in Touch Days’ (KIT days) and these will not impact on the adoption leave period. Normal pay will be an amount inclusive of any SMP you may be receiving.
Keeping in Touch days do not have to be worked consecutively and can be used for training or undertaking other activities as appropriate.
Employees should claim hours worked during Keeping in Touch days, on their weekly timecard via Oracle Fusion. Hours worked will be approved by your manager and then processed for payment. See the guidance on how to submit Keeping in Touch days via Oracle Fusion.
