Whilst you are off

To help you understand the pay implications of being on Adoption Leave you can use the Oracle Intelligent Adviser (OIA). By clicking the Adoption Policy icon and providing some personal and job related details and expected adoption leave start and end dates you will be provided with an indicative pay break down for your period of leave.

If you have less than 26 weeks continuous service by the end of the week you are notified of being matched to a child, you have no entitlement to pay during Adoption leave.

If you have been continuously employed for at least 26 weeks at the end of the week of being matched with a child and your average weekly earnings exceed the lower earnings limit for National Insurance contributions, payment will be paid as follows:

  • 6 weeks at 9/10ths of your average weekly earnings (this figure is inclusive of any Statutory Adoption pay (SAP) to which you are entitled during this period);
  • 12 weeks at half pay (except where the combined pay and SAP exceeds full pay);
  • 21 weeks of SAP;
  • Any further period of leave is unpaid.

'Keeping in Touch' (KIT) days

During adoption leave you are entitled to 10 days at work with normal pay. These are classed as ‘Keeping in Touch Days’ (KIT days) and these will not impact on the adoption leave period.  Normal pay will be an amount inclusive of any SAP you may be receiving.

Keeping in Touch days do not have to be worked consecutively and can be used for training or undertaking other activities as appropriate.

Employees should claim hours worked during Keeping in Touch days, on their weekly timecard via Oracle Fusion. Hours worked will be approved by your manager and then processed for payment. See the guidance on how to submit Keeping in Touch days via Oracle Fusion.
