Dignity at work
A core value of ours is to provide a supportive working environment which promotes openness, mutual respect, dignity and trust. The aim of our Dignity at Work Policy, which we developed with the trade unions, is to prevent behaviour and actions that could be viewed as harassment, bullying, discrimination or victimisation in the workplace. To achieve this aim, everyone in the workplace, including employees, supervisors, managers and trade union representatives must be aware and challenge any form of unacceptable behaviour. Inaction is not an option. The policy will ensure that appropriate and effective action is taken if this occurs.
As a manager you are responsible for recognising and tackling all types of unacceptable behaviour. You must support this policy, employees who need to use it and ensure you are not behaving in a way which may be unacceptable to others. Unacceptable behaviour is usually bullying, harassment, direct discrimination, indirect discrimination and/or victimisation.
Complaints can be made by an individual or a group of people and can be progressed informally or formally.
If an employee feels they have been on the receiving end of unacceptable behaviour, they can make their complaint informally by contacting Personnel Sevices and/or the Personnel Advisor (Employee Support) at Finance and Corporate Resources. The employee will be given advice and support on how to proceed, and discuss suitable courses of action.
